Magnolia was truly devasted in the aftermath Game 7 of the 2019 PBA Philippine Cup Finals.
Losing a championship clincher by one point will get you down that’s for sure.
While it wasn’t for a championship, the Hotshots got to extract some revenge on Finals tormentor San Miguel Beer Wednesday in the 2019 Commissioner’s Cup, issuing a 36-point beating on the Beermen.
“Maganda lang motivation namin, coming from the Game 7 loss,” head coach Chito Victolero said of the rousing win.
“My challenge to my players is kahit paano, maka-bawi man lang kami kahit sa elims,” he added.
Against the Beermen, Magnolia went with the formula that worked in the All-Filipino Finals.
At least for this one game, the Hotshots were super effective and they were able to contain both June Mar Fajardo and Charles Rhodes.
Actually, the Hotshots just shut down SMB as a whole.
“We just tried to be aggressive sa depensa especially on June Mar and Rhodes,” Victolero said.
“It’s a total team effort. Maganda rin yung mindset ng big men na maka-depensa ng maayos sa big men ng SMB,” he added.
