Tied at 80 against Blackwater, Nambatac shook off Roi Sumang and hit a booming triple for the win to push Rain or Shine to a 1-0 lead in their best-of-3 quarterfinals series against the Elite.

Rey Nambatac hit the biggest shot to officially start the 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup playoffs.

Tied at 80 against Blackwater, Nambatac shook off Roi Sumang and hit a booming triple for the win to push Rain or Shine to a 1-0 lead in their best-of-3 quarterfinals series against the Elite.

It was pure confidence on the part of Nambatac.

“Bago ko tinira nakita ko na yung oras eh. Paubos na so ang maganda lang, biglang dumikit sakin si Roi Sumang, so nabigyan ako ng space na maka-shoot ng maayos kahit malayo,” Nambatac, who finished with 13 points in the win, said.

“Ayun nga, kumpiyansa lang talaga kasi yun binigay ni coach Caloy eh. Binibigyan niya ako ng free will na gawin ko yung gusto ko. Nagpe-pay off naman. Sinusuklian ko lang yung tiwala na binibigay ni coach at ng teammates ko,” he added.

After an up-and-down conference, the Elasto Painters still somehow found themselves as a no. 6 seed and in a best-of-3 series.

Paired with an upstart Blackwater squad, ROS had the opportunity to get ahead based on experience alone.

At least for Game 1, the Elasto Painters cashed in...

“Nag-end up kami sa 6th, Blackwater nakatapat namin. Malaking bagay din yun, kasi sabi nga ni coach, parang kulang pa sila sa experience and then kami, medyo may experience na rin kahit mga bata kami,” Nambatac said.

“Nandun na yung opportunity eh. Imagine itong elimination talaga kami yung naghahabol ng panalo, kasabayan namin Magnolia, San Miguel, pero nag-end up kami sa magandang position na meron kaming chance na makapasok ulit sa semifinals,” he added.
