PVL: Angels remain unscathed, add more woes to Motolite

PetroGazz steamrolled past Motolite for a 3-0 win-loss slate at the top spot.

PetroGazz rolled to its third straight win as the Angels crushed an undermanned Motolite side, 25-22, 25-18, 25-19, on Sunday in the Premier Volleyball League Season 3 Reinforced Conference at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

American import Janisa Johnson and Cuban Wilma Salas conspired to keep the Angels’ tight hold of the solo lead as PetroGazz took advantage of the limping Motolite, who played sans injured Bosnian reinforcement Edina Selimovic. PetroGazz has yet to drop a set in the import-laden tournament.

“’Yun nga ang challenge sa amin kung paano masu-sustain hanggang sa susunod na mga games. But given sa mga situation, every time sa mga kalaban namin parang nagpi-favor sa amin. Like yung imports namin 100%, yung first game namin against Creamline si Alyssa (Valdez) na ano (injure) kaya di sila nakatapos ng tatlong sets," said Angels coach Arnold Laniog.

"Tapos against BanKo Perlas parang second set pa lang si (Kia) Bright or nag-start ng third set wala na rin sa loob. Tapos ito naman wala naman ang import nila na isa," he added. "So siguro sa part namin talagang hangga’t maaari wala talagang magko-complacent, magri-relax. The more na nananalo kami magpu-push talaga kasi maghahanda ang ibang team."

Salas finished with 25 points with all but one coming off attacks and added nine excellent receptions for the Angels. Johnson added 13 markers with 12 receives and 10 digs while Jeanette Panaga had six markers for PetroGazz, which hammered 45 spikes.

Motolite remained winless and played without Selimovic, who sustained a minor knee injury in the fourth set of their debut loss at the hands of PacificTown on Saturday. Prized local hitter Myla Pablo also skipped the match to rest her sore lower back.

American Channon Thompson was the lone Motolite player in double figures with 22 points coming off 16 attacks, three aces and three kill blocks. Isa Molde and Tots Carlos combined for 12 markers.
