PetroGazz braces for a tough run in the second round of the Premier Volleyball League Season 3 Reinforced Conference.
The Angels completed a sweep of their first five games without dropping a set for a tight grip of the solo lead.
“Everyone's gonna be coming for us. We have to really step our game now,” said American import Janisa Johnson.
Johnson, who is averaging 16.8 points per game, stresses that they need to up the ante as they make their crucial push for a spot in the Final Four.
“What we are good at, we have to be better at it,” she said. “The mistakes we made, of course we gonna improve that. Whatever aspect of the game, we have to improve it by as much as we can.”
PetroGazz closed the first round with a 25-12, 29-27, 25-15, demolition of PacificTown Army on Saturday.
Head coach Arnold Laniog expects their rivals to come down on them raring for payback.
“Ayun nga, we expect naman na 'yung team na 'yun ay magpre-prepare ng double time para sa amin. Kaya dapat mas ma-feel namin 'yung challenge doon,” he said. “Alam namin 'yung kalaban na babawi at babawi 'yan. Mindset lang talaga.”
The mentor is confident that his squad will keep its focus on its main goal and will guard against complacency.
“At least kahit papaano, 'yung mindset namin individually, naico-connect namin as a team para isang way lang 'yung gusto naming mangyari sa amin, para nasa isang page lang kami kaya nagco-connect lahat,” said Laniog. “Kaya alam na namin as a team kung ano 'yung kaya nilang i-contribute, 'yung mga locals namin, ready naman doon sa mga kailangan din nilang i-contribute sa team. Ang lumalabas talaga ay team effort.”
The Angels will face BanKo on Wednesday in their second round opener.
