BanKo kept mum on the real reason on why prolific scorer American Kia Bright saw limited minutes in the Perlas Spikers’ four-set loss to league-leading PetroGazz in the Premier Volleyball League Season 3 Reinforced Conference on Wednesday at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
“It’s a coach and management decision e,” said BanKo’s top local hitter Nicole Tiamzon.
Bright saw only two sets of action, coming in off the bench in the opening set, starting in second frame before calling it a day as she watched from the sidelines Angels imports Cuban Wilma Salas and American Janisa Johnson rip apart the Perlas Spikers, 25-23, 25-11. 22-25, 25-20.
“Wala naman kaming ano doon,” said Tiamzon referring to Bright’s limited minutes. “Kung ano man ang decision ng coaches namin kailangan na lang namin mag-adjust and kita natin kanina yung pag-step up ng mga Filipino players.”
Aside from Bright, Turkish import Yasemin Yildirim also played off the bench in three of her four games of action.
Despite of an all-Filipino lineup for most of the match, the Perlas Spikers handed the unbeaten Angels their first set loss of the conference after winning 17 straight.
“Personally, I’m happy kasi kita mo yung mga teammates mo na sobrang nagpe-perform talaga and it’s all about the teamwork inside kahit walang mga imports sa loob,” said Tiamzon, who scored 20 points.
However, without the usual production of Bright, who recorded a league-best 41 points last year for Perlas Spikers, BanKo absorbed its second straight defeat to fall to 2-4 win-loss slate at fourth spot – just a half-game behind of Motolite (1-4).
Salas also registered her career-best of 37 points while Johnson had 24.
“It’s okay,” said Tiamzon, who saw a silver-lining in the loss as Perlas Spikers travel to Iloilo on Saturday to face defending champion Creamline.
“This game yung natutunan namin dadalhin namin to going to Ilo-ilo,” she added. “Importante naman bawat game may natututunan and you know sa sarili mo pati sa team na nagi-improve kayo game by game.”
