BanKo may have taken the first step towards the bronze medal, but the Perlas Spikers are not out of the woods yet.
Simply put, BanKo needs to win another match against the PacificTown Army in the best-of-three Premier Volleyball League Season 3 Reinforced Conference battle for third to capture its third straight bronze medal finish.
“Yes, yes. So, napakalaking bagay ng first na panalo din,” said BanKo skipper Nicole Tiamzon after the Perlas Spikers’ thrilling 25-27, 10-25, 27-25, 26-24, 16-14, win Wednesday. “Uulitin na lang namin ulit kung ano man ang nangyari ngayong game na ito.”
Game 2 is on Saturday.
But in a scenario where BanKo loses to the Lady Troopers in the pivotal second game and the Finals series between defending champion Creamline and PetroGazz ends in two matches, this is where things get complicated.
PacificTown Army can steal the third place trophy if they win in three or four sets.
The Lady Troopers can also bag the bronze if ever they win via five sets, depending on the points they earned following the FIVB ruling on tiebreaks.
With this in mind, BanKo will approach Game 2 with a must-win mentality.
“Actually veteran team sila. So we really expect na pukpukan talaga kami for the third place,” Tiamzon said. “’Yun nga, doon sa next game, sana mas mag-improve pa kami. Magta-training ulit kami kasi sobrang cardiac talaga ng nangyari. Kung kaya mauna, uunahan na namin.”
