BaliPure star Grazielle Bombita was already suffering from leg cramps in the third frame of the Water Defenders’ Premier Volleyball League Season 3 Open Conference match against Air Force on Wednesday.
With BaliPure looking to arrest a two-game skid, Bombita refused to give in to pain.
“Third set po naramdaman ko na siya lalo na kapag tumatalon parang may tumutusok. Nire-relax ko lang. Sabi ko, ‘Wag, wag!’ Tapos nung huli na doon na po talaga masakit kapag bumabagsak na,” said Bombita.
The Bicolana hitter played through cramps and delivered an impressive performance that fueled the Water Defenders’ 26-24, 16-25, 25-19, 17-25, 17-15, win that gave BaliPure its first-ever win of the season.
“Sabi ko hindi pwede, hindi pwede. Sabi nga ni sir, ‘Kung kaya pa?’ Sabi ko, ‘Kaya pa! Kaya po, tatapusin po namin ang laban. Walang bibitaw,’” Bombita said.
Bombita displayed an all-around performance as she finished with 23 points and 15 digs for BaliPure, which went winless in the season-opening Reinforced Conference.
Bombita showed great heart in the fifth set when she hammered the match point advantage, 16-15, but went down in pain because of leg cramp. She shook it off and continued playing before Air Force yielded the match when Dell Palomata committed an attack error.
“Sobrang sarap. Para sa amin para kaming nag-champion,” said Bombita of their win. “Nakaka-high morale po. Ganito pala pakiramdam ng nananalo. Kaya kailangang doblehin pa ang ginagawa namin and nakaka-boost ng confidence.”
The win also took the monkey of BaliPure’s back and made the Water Defenders regain their confidence.
“Sobra kaming natuto sa mga laro namin. To be honest, nakaka-low morale sa amin talaga dahil sa bottom kami,” she said. “At least ngayon masasabi namin na kaya din naman pala naming manalo.”
“Kailangan lang talaga naming ilaban hanggang huli and kailangan naming maniwala sa kakayanan namin na kaya namin,” added Bombita. “’Yung tiwalang ibinibigay sa amin kailangan naming i-give back, na kailangan naming patunayan na di lang kaming puro salita, kailangang manalo.”
