Alyssa Valdez was just relieved that defending champion Creamline survived a very challenging week that saw the Cool Smashers take on two of the top title contenders in the Premier Volleyball League Season 3 Open Conference.
Creamline preserved its pristine record after five games to remain at solo top spot with only three more assignments left for the repeat-seeking squad in the first round of eliminations.
The Cool Smashers went two-for-two in their hell week after hurdling BanKo on Wednesday before scoring payback on Reinforced Conference Finals tormentor PetroGazz on Saturday.
“I think the hardest part was tuluy-tuloy talaga ang game namin,” said Valdez. “But we can’t make excuses eh so we have to keep on going.”
Creamline opened the week with a 25-10, 19-25, 25-17, 25-23 win over the Perlas Spikers in a match where the Cool Smashers surrendered a frame for the first time after sweeping past their first three opponents. The duel started and ended late after the first two games in the triple-bill playdate were decided in five sets.
The Tai Bundit-mentored squad then followed it up with a 25-19, 28-26, 25-20, victory over the Angels.
“I guess the motivation came from our coaches, our teammates and management,” said Valdez, who averaged 20.5 points this week. “Kung saan kami kumukuha ng fuel para maka-survive sa hell week na yun it’s really from the support system that we have as a team.”
Valdez, who scored 15 points with 14 digs and seven excellent receptions against PetroGazz, also downplayed Creamline’s win over the Angels.
“If you’re gonna ask me kung ano ang pakiramdam, kung mas OK ba sa amin ang panalong ‘to, kung anong makukuha namin sa panalong ito? It’s really I think sa confidence lang going through all the games pa na gagawin namin,” she said.
The string of victories according to Valdez, will give them the much-needed boost as they go up against sister-team ChocoMucho next Saturday, PacificTown Army on September 4 before wrapping it up on Sept. 7 against BaliPure.
“It’s more of getting our rhythm and we’re just really happy na we got the win,” she said. “Kasi if your goal is to reach sa dulo kailangan mas maraming panalo dito sa mga unang laro kasi di pa kami nakakapagbasahan kasi first round pa lang ng eliminations.”
