Ateneo de Manila University currently owns the longest active winning streak in the 78th Season of the UAAP Men’s Basketball Tournament and rookie stud Matt Nieto has been nothing but a key cog in their five consecutive victories.
However, an unfortunate injury is looming over the Blue Eagle guard’s emergence.
At the midway mark of the final frame, Nieto landed awkwardly after a rebounding sequence and immediately clutched his right thigh. He was unable to put any weight on his leg and needed to be helped out of the court.
While the good news is that after the game, the rookie was walking around without any noticeable limp, the bad news is that his exact injury is yet to be determined. “I’m gonna see pa tomorrow. The doctor is gonna check my thigh,” he told reporters.
Still, Nieto remained upbeat in saying, “Hopefully, nothing wrong since I can walk naman. Medyo may ika-ika lang, but I’ll be fine.”
The Blue Eagle described the pain in his right thigh to be ranging from five to six on a scale of one to 10. “Hindi siya 100 percent, pero hindi naman sobrang sakit na I’m gonna be out for the game on Saturday or the Final Four,” he said.
