Without a doubt, De La Salle University rookie big man Ben Mbala would be difficult to defend and would pose a problem for just about anybody in the upcoming season of the UAAP.
That is exactly why just about anybody would need all the help they could get.
In that regard, Far Eastern University – the team most at threat as the defending champions – just may have an ace up their sleeve in the form of Monbert Arong.
While the graduating guard is a talent who can make an impact on the floor, it’s actually what he knows out of it that just may spell the difference for the Tamaraws.
Arong was once a teammate of Mbala back when both of them suited up for Southwestern University in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI). There, they teamed up to lead the Cobras to the championship in the 2012-2013 season.
As such, the Cebu native knows his former teammate very well. “Kilalang kilala ko siya,” he said while smiling.
The FEU slasher then went on to say that he has already shared Mbala’s tendencies to his teammates. This, he believes could only make their defense stronger against the Green Archers and their hulking Cameroonian.
However, the DLSU rookie big man told his former teammate that he shouldn’t be so sure. “I was a 17-year-old kid then and I can say I have grown. What I was doing in SWU isn’t the same thing I’m doing here in La Salle,” be said.
He then continued, “If he’s expecting the same kid out there, he’d be very surprised.”
