Ateneo de Manila University tankers ruled the 80th UAAP swimming tournament after completing a clean sweep of the men’s and women’s divisions after four days of action at the Rizal Memorial Swimming Pool.
The Blue Eagles led by two-time Olympian and Most Valuable Player Jessie Khing Lacuna completed a four-peat Sunday after accumulating 567 points.
Trailing far behind Ateneo, which bagged its fifth overall men’s crown, at second place was De La Salle University with 328 points while University of the Philippines completed the podium cast with 191 points.
University of Sto. Tomas placed fourth (84) followed by National University (38), University of the East (27) and Adamson University (18).
Ateneo’s Miguel Karlo Barlisan snatched the Rookie of the Year recognition.
In the distaff side, the Lady Eagles reclaimed the throne they ceded last year to the Lady Maroons after collecting 483 points.
UP was close behind with 437 points for a silver medal finish while University of Sto. Tomas finished third with 105 points. DLSU landed at fourth (92) while National University took the last spot (28).
Ateneo’s Kirsten Chloe Daos of Ateneo was named Rookie of the Year and MVP.
In the juniors division, UST brought home its second straight boys division title while DLSU completed a repeat in the girls division.
UST earned 405 points just six points ahead of closest pursuer and boys second placer DLSU-Zobel (399) while Ateneo bagged third (191) followed by NU (110), UE, (97) and UP (58).
Maurice Sacho Ilustre of DLSU was named MVP while UE’s Terrence Delvo bagged Rookie of the Year.
DLSU collected 419 points to beat UST (298). UP (234) took the third spot (234) followed by Ateneo (137), NU (92) and UE (21).
Nicole Pamintuan of DLSU captured her second straight girls MVP award while UP Integrated School’s Maria Consuelo Neri, daughter of ABS-CBN S+A director Al Neri and executive producer Malou Neri, was awarded Rookie of the Year.
