King Miyagi and JB Borlongan both recorded a brace as the University of the Philippines demolished Adamson University, 4-1, in UAAP Season 80 Men’s Football action, Thursday morning at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium.
The surging Maroons got off to a quick start courtesy of third year-striker Miyagi, who found the back of the net in just the fourth minute of play.
Borlongan got in on the scoring early as well, connecting on his first goal in the tenth minute to double-up on the UP advantage.
Falcon Jusuel Pilarca tried to make it interesting after pulling one back for Adamson’s first goal of the season in the 12th minute.
Four minutes later, Miyagi hit his second goal of the morning to restore UP’s two-goal advantage at 3-1.
Borlongan put the finishing touches in the 72nd minute to seal the 4-1 win.
While it was UP’s second dominant win in a row, head coach Anto Gonzales wasn’t too pleased with his boys’ performance, citing a lack of aggressiveness on their part.
“Very poor performance. They weren't sharp. They were lazy, they weren't thinking.” Gonzales said after the match. “It's the attitude. It's the mental approach to the game. Maybe, it got into their heads, after two good performances.
Gonzales added that he feels his boys relaxed a bit against the struggling Falcons.
“Playing against Adamson, they took it quite easily, it's their worst performance in three games.”
Nonetheless, the Fighting Maroons remain unbeaten in Season 80, improving to three wins in as many matches for nine points.
Adamson on the other hand, drops their third straight loss of the season to remain at zero points.
