University of Santo Tomas and National University shared points after figuring in a scoreless draw in UAAP Season 80 Men’s Football action, Thursday afternoon at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium.
Coming off back-to-back victories, the Growling Tigers were looking for their third straight, and pressed the action early on, leading to a couple of good attempts at goal from Renz Gumban.
Avoiding a third straight defeat, the Bulldogs showed a more aggressive attack and got off a couple of good attempts of their own, but couldn’t convert.
In the second half, the Tigers came very close to breaking the deadlock, with substitute Steven Anotado dropping it off to UST leading goal scorer Marvin Bricenio for the shot, which ended up going wide right.
With four minutes added to extra time, the Tigers kept pushing to get on the board, but to no avail.
"Well there’s a lot of things to fixed based sa game na ‘to," said UST head coach Marjo Allado, who didn't hide his disappointment following UST's first taste of a draw this season. "Ang dami naming aayusin, number one is yung intensity namin, number two is yung players, yung communication inside."
"Kung ganito yung laro namin, mahihirapan kami, kahit mag-semifinals." Allado added.
As for the Bulldogs side, NU head coach Mari Aberasturi was relieved to see his boys finally get their first point of the season.
"At least, maganda na nakakuha ng first point, di ba? It's always good to get one point." Aberasturi said. "Nagbago kami ng style of play, first time namin magbago, i-harness namin kasi positive point siya kaysa dati naming ginagawa."
UST moves to two wins and a draw for seven points in Season 80, while NU gets their first point of the season, moving to a draw and two losses in three matches.
