Defending champion National University cruised past Adamson University, 25-19, 25-16, 25-20, Sunday in the UAAP Season 81 men’s volleyball Final Four to advance to its seventh straight Finals appearance at the MOA Arena.
The Bulldogs won their 14th straight game of the season and forged a best-of-three titular showdown against Far Eastern University in a rematch of Season 75 Finals series won by NU in three games.
“Ito talaga ‘yung goal namin noong simula pa lang ng game and sana magtulu’y tuloy hanggang Finals,” said Bulldogs coach Dante Alinsunurin, who is looking to deliver NU’s fourth title under his watch.
Veteran middle blocker Kim Malabunga spearheaded the Bulldogs’ assault with 17 points, putting his scoring skills in full display with eight attacks, eight kill blocks and an ace for 17 points. Graduating hitter Bryan Bagunas added nine markers while rookie Angelo Almendras and Francis Saura got seven points each for NU, which frustrated the Falcons with 16 kill blocks bannered by Malabunga.
It was total domination for the Bulldogs, pulling away early in each set to dictate the tempo of the match.
Game 1 of the Finals is on May 11.
Leo Miranda led the Falcons with 11 points, Royce Bello had nine while graduating skipper Paolo Pablico scored six markers in his last game for Adamson, which gave away 26 points off errors.
