Thank you na rin kasi para na rin yun sa mga tao na nai-inspire ko na kahit maliit lang kami kaya namin -- Sisi Rondina on winning the Season MVP award

Volleyball is not just about height, but how big one’s heart is to strive for excellence.

Sisi Rondina is living proof of that philosophy as the 5-foot-6 University of Sto. Tomas hitter towered above everybody else following a much-deserved Most Valuable Player award in the UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball tournament.

Although, the Cebuana hotshot stressed time and again that her focus is not on individual glory but for the bigger picture of seeing her beloved Tigresses back in the throne of nine long years, Rondina was thankful for the recognition given to her.

“I’m still thankful na binigyan ako ng blessing ni God. Thank you na rin kasi para na rin yun sa mga tao na nai-inspire ko na kahit maliit lang kami kaya namin,” said Rondina Thursday evening during UST’s team practice in preparation for the best-of-three Finals against Ateneo de Manila University starting Saturday.

Rodina, who won four titles in UAAP beach volleyball with four MVP awards to boot, played her heart out in her swan song and all her efforts to deliver the goods and lead the team helped UST get back into the Finals after an eight-year wait.

The fifth year open spiker averaged 17.7 points per game with a 33.38 spiking percentage and 3.98 digs per set.

“If you put your heart in every game. If you put your 101% effort para lang maglaro for your team, walang problema,” she said. “Makukuha’t makukuha mo kung anong gusto mo.”

Rondina, who also won the Second Best Open Spiker award, reiterated that lack of height is not a disadvantage but a challenge that only with those with the strongest of hearts will overcome.

“Walang maliit sa volleyball,” said Rondina. “Ang kailangan d’yan how you play with a big heart, how you put your effort na tatrabahuhin mo talaga to raise your team.”
