University of Sto. Tomas top hitter Sisi Rondina is known for her powerful attacks and high-flying spectacles.
In this UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball Finals series, the graduating senior displayed her full arsenal.
The Cebuana-native torched the defense of Ateneo de Manila University with missiles coming from all angles – even those difficult ones – to power the Tigresses to a 25-17, 25-16, 25-20, victory in Game 1 of the best-of-three series on Saturday at the Big Dome.
Rondina scored 23 points highlighted by 20-of-50 spiking clip for UST.
“Ang masasabi ko lang kasi sa palo ko ngayon nilagyan ko lang siya ng variation and nakikinig ako sa mga bata at mga coaches namin na hindi lahat malakas, hindi lahat brasuhan, kailangan utakan,” said Rondina, who also had 12 digs.
She punished the net defense of the much taller Lady Eagles not only with her powerful attacks but also with heady hits.
The Queen Tigress even controlled herself from being too aggressive.
“Kanina lumabas yung panggigil ko buti na lang na-compose ko ang sarili ko,” she said. “Wala akong ibang inisip kundi lulusot ‘to, pupuntos ‘to para sa team ko.”
Coming into the Finals, the Tigresses’ first since their runner-up finish in Season 73, Rondina was just focused on winning the game.
“Sobrang focused lang talaga ako,” she said. “Wala kaming ibang inisip laro lang talaga. Kung ano galaw ko, ano receive ko, service ko.”
Rondina and the rest of the Tigresses can finish the series on Wednesday at the MOA Arena.
