Ricci Rivero has, at long last, returned to the UAAP Men's Basketball Tournament.
And his first basket for the University of the Philippines was as memorable as they come.
Yes, Rivero hammered down an alley-oop for his first points in Season 82 and his first make as a Fighting Maroon.
"If may chance, ganun talaga. We have to grab the opportunity," he told reporters about his highlight post-game.
The talented transferee, though, was also quick to say that dunk shouldn't be celebrated all that much. As he put it, "For me, like what I told my teammates kanina, we can't dwell on what we're feeling. Kailangan, if someone makes a highlight, we stay in the game and get back on defense."
He then continued, "Kasi that's what's important."
Indeed, State U needed to do all the right things to put away Far Eastern University which just kept coming.
In the end, though, Rivero's highlight was coupled with Javi Gomez de Liano's scoring outburst and Bright Akhuetie and Jun Manzo's makes, giving their side the well-earned win.
And in the end, what matters most for UP is making sure their faithful go home with smiles on their faces. "Sobrang overwhelming yung suporta ng UP kaya sobrang happy ako na rito ako napunta," their third-year swingman said.
