De La Salle University was up 80-66 on NU in the fourth quarter Wednesday in the UAAP Season 82 men’s basketball tournament.
It looked like the Archers were going to cruise to a nice first win of the season.
The Bulldogs unloaded a wild 16-1 run to take over with a one-point lead, 82-81.
Fortunately for the Green Archers, Kurt Lojera saved the day with a clutch jumper with 14 seconds to go, pushing La Salle back up, 83-82.
The Green Archers would then get a stop and the win on the other end.
“One thing we can’t really address at this moment is we’re inexperienced as a team,” coach Gian Nazario said as the Green Archers almost fell apart in the clutch.
“As you know, we’re a new staff, we’re a new team. When a team like that rattles you a lot, yung familiarity will always be the advantage. Yun yung hahanapin mo eh, yung familiarity sa isa’t isa. It showed in the last quarter na we were rattled good thing we were able to push through,” he added.
While La Salle may go through some growing pains when it comes to inexperience, the important thing for the Green Archers now is to stick to their guns and run the system in place.
Experience will come in time but discipline has to be in place as early as now.
“One thing is to just settle down. Second is that we have to keep executing,” Nazario said.
“There were a couple of possessions - four straight - they [Bulldogs] were able to trap us right before or right after we cross the half-court. Just like what I said it comes down to inexperience. We’ll go from there,” he added.
