Juan Gomez de Liano’s back is far from full strength, but that didn’t stop him from proving he will always have the University of the Philippines’ back.

Down two to De La Salle University, Wednesday at the MOA Arena, Juan GDL took matters into his own hands - literally.

First, he grabbed possession away from Aljun Melecio and not long after, launched the long-ranged missile that eventually ended capped off a come-from-behind win.

He made those game-winning plays, even as he's been struggling, posting per game counts of 6.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists, in 22.3 minutes.

And he made those game-winning plays, even as he’s still recovering from back spasms as well as an injured right knee and left ankle. "I'm really glad I made the right decision. I made the sacrifice to play last three minutes despite all the injuries I have right now," he said.

Even so, Fighting Maroons’ head coach Bo Perasol had full faith in his prized playmaker. "The biggest shot came from Juan. I know he's struggling with his recovery, but you know, Juan is a winner, always a winner," he said.

He then continued, "I didn't have any doubt in my mind that he was going for the three-point shot and Juan is Juan, he made it in the end."

Of course, that full faith has done nothing but help Juan GDL in his recovery. As he put it, "I'm really thankful to my team that even though I've been struggling, they still have trust in me. I've been working hard to get back and I feel like I'm good for these kinds of moments."
