Today, Wednesday, October 30, 2019 is a big day for Philip Manalang.
Manalang has played his last game for University of the East and has come away a winner.
“Masaya ako kasi nanalo kami tapos maganda yung exit ko,” as he helped the Red Warriors triumph over National University. “Pero eight years din ako rito sa UAAP so malungkot at the same time kasi mawawala na yung mga nakasanayan mo.”
With that, the 22-year-old bids bye-bye to the UAAP after eight years - half with Nazareth School of National University and half in Recto - having posted per game counts of 5.6 points, 2.9 assists, and 2.8 rebounds in 22.5 minutes of play in his last season.
However, there will be no days off for Manalang - quite literally at that.
From MOA Arena, he will be heading straight to the Bulacan Capitol Gym where he is all set to make his debut in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League. "Laro na ako mamaya para sa Basilan so diretso akong Bulacan. Kailangan ko nang mag-report dun e," he said.
The 5-foot-8 playmaker will get the next five hours to rest and recuperate before their matchup opposite Quezon City at 6:30 p.m.
"One hundred percent nilaro ko rito, pero may time pa sa biyahe para magpahinga," he said, assuring the Steel that he still has a lot left in the tank even after playing 29 minutes for the Red Warriors. "Pagdating dun, pukpok na ulit."
In the regional league, Manalang hopes to experience something he wasn't able to in the UAAP Srs. "Yung 'di ko na-achieve dito, Final Four, championship, sana dun ko siguro makuha" he said.
