Bright Akhuetie wants nothing more than to keep giving his all for the University of the Philippines.
And that is exactly why he has expressed that he is in Diliman to stay for his third and final year. As he put it, "I still have one more year. Do I have any reason to leave?"
This was the Nigerian powerhouse's answer after being asked if he will return next season - especially as the responses of head coach Bo Perasol, Kobe Paras, and Gomez de Liano brothers Javi and Juan weren't necessarily categorical.
For Akhuetie, though, the Fighting Maroons' earlier than expected exit actually made him want to continue donning the maroon and green all the more. "Winners don't stop when they lose, they learn and get better. It's time to get better," he said.
Last year's MVP and State U put up a gallant stand last Wednesday, but ultimately bowed to University of Sto. Tomas.
With that, they fell short of their goal of making it to their second straight Finals.
In the eyes of Akhuetie, however, that failure will only make them better. "It's just a learning experience so we just have to go back and get ourselves together to build that chemistry more," he said.
