Title favorite Pocari Sweat rolled to its second straight win by breezing past the struggling University of the Philippines side, 25-20, 25-16, 25-23, Saturday in the 13th V-League Reinforced Conference at The Arena in San Juan.
American import Bre Mackie showed the way for the Pocari Sweat with 23 points including the Lady Warriors’ last five points of the match. The hitter smashed 19 kills with three kill blocks and an ace while adding seven digs for an all-around performance in the Open Conference champion’s second win in three games tied with Laoag.
“Nakikita namin na medyo gumaganda na ‘yung laro ng mga players medyo nagdyi-jell na,” said Pocari Sweat coach Rommel Abella.
“Pero kung ia-assess siguro namin sila nasa 85 to 90% pa lang so there’s still a lot more to improve on especially our receive. We’ll focus on it sa mga sudunod naming mga training,” the mentor added.
The Lady Maroons tried to make a comeback in the third set, taking a 22-20 lead before Mackie carried the Lady Warriors on her back. The 6-foot-3 spiker sparked her winning blitz with a hit before sealing the match with an off the block kill.
Myla Pablo scored nine points with seven off attacks while skipper Michel Gumabao had eight for Pocari Sweat.
The Lady Warriors outgunned the Diliman-based squad 44-21.
UP dropped to its second straight loss for a 1-3 slate.
Marian Buitre finished with eight points while Isa Molde and Justine Dorog had six markers each for the Lady Maroons.
