WRONG FOOT. The first official practice of Gilas Pilipinas got off to a bad start as Kelly Williams left the gym hurting.
The first official official practice of the newly-named Philippine national basketball team had not even gone for five minutes and there was already somebody on the floor.
Some odd minutes after head coach started the Gilas Pilipinas practice on Monday at the Meralco Gym in Ortigas, Kelly Williams slipped and fell to the floor while holding on to his right knee.
The team was doing a dribbling and passing drill before Williams’ injury caused the entire practice to stop. The Talk n Text center was unable to put any weight on his knee and needed to be carried into a chair.
Practice resumed once Williams was seated. After 15 minutes, the former first overall pick was then helped by team trainers out of the gym and brought to nearby Cardinal Santos Medical Center.
Asked about the Talk n Text center’s status, head coach Tab Baldwin said, “We still don’t know. We sent him to the hospital to get an MRI.”
He continued, “It wasn’t good. We just hope and pray that it sounded worse than what it really is.”
