ONTO THE NEXT. Both James Yap and Paul Lee will now be playing for only the second squad in their respective professional careers.
In what is inarguably the biggest deal of the year, Star traded longtime icon James Yap to Rain or Shine for their own franchise player in Paul Lee.
The straight up swap was approved by the league office last Thursday.
The transaction means that the two players, both products of the University of the East, will be moving on from their first and only professional clubs.
Yap was drafted by the Hotshots, then known as Purefoods, second overall back in 2004. From then, he averaged 15.6 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 1.5 assists.
“Big Game James” has been hailed as MVP twice and has won a total of seven championships, including a Grand Slam, with the Purefoods franchise. And for him, those 12 years had been nothing but wonderful.
On the other hand, Lee was selected top two in 2011 by the Elasto Painters. He has normed 13.1 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 3.2 assists since.
“The Lethal Weapon” was a key cog in Rain or Shine’s two championships and their continued contention all throughout his five years with the franchise. And for him, that run was only a great experience to help him as he moves forward with his career.
