James Yap unlocks career milestone in his ROS debut
Only one active PBA player has more three-pointers than James Yap following his debut with the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters.
James Yap joined some elite territory after playing his very first game with the Elasto Painters.
With two triples on his way to 10 points in a Rain or Shine victory, the former two-time PBA Most Valuable Player became 5th in the all-time list for most three-point field goals made with 1,001 conversions from deep.
Yap now only trails Jimmy Alapag (1,250), Allan Caidic (1,242), Ronnie Magsanoc (1,171), and Dondon Hontiveros (1,119). Big Game James' first three of the night actually allowed him to tie Al Solis for 6th place before moving to solo fifth with a second trey.
Asked about his new career milestone, Yap said he thought about it during his days with the Purefoods franshise before completely forgetting about it.
"Actually naisip ko yun nung nasa Star ako. For this game nakalimutan ko na yun and yun pala one three points away na lang," Yap said.
"Sobrang blessed na na-reach ko yun and syempre dala-dala mo na habang buhay na record yun, so blessed," he added.
Making his highly-anticipated debut for ROS following his trade from Star, Yap was admittedly excited for his new squad, especially since he's also coming back from injury that cut his season short in the 2016 Governors' Cup.
"Alam naman natin Rain or Shine malakas na team yan, sobrang excited ako for this game, excited makabalik para makatulong sa kanila," he said.
Despite being traded away from the team he's won a Grand Slam with, Yap is totally fine with ROS, a group that he says is a "championship team."
"Before nung wala pa ako dito hirap na hirap kaming talunin, buti na lang kahit papano napunta ako sa magandang team and sana tuluy-tuloy na, madala itong goof start." Yap said.
