RR Garcia scored 12 points off the bench as the champs took care of NLEX pretty easily in Cagayan De Oro City.
LEX's retribution will have to come another day.
Two-time defending Philippine Cup champion San Miguel Beer travelled to Cagayan De Oro City and absolutely blasted the Road Warriors with a 106-80 win Saturday at the Xavier University Gym.
The Beermen were off to the races in the first quarter, taking a 31-19 lead and never looked back. The game was practically over by halftime with San Miguel on top, 60-37.
Coming in with a 3-1 record but not without the dominant aura they used to flash, the champs finally got to send a statement across the league that the road to the championships goes through them. San Miguel dominated the entire contest and even led by 33 points at one point.
Alex Cabagnot led six San Miguel players in double figures with 18 points. He also had four rebounds and four assists as the Beermen take over the top of the standings with a 4-1 card.
MVPs June Mar Fajardo and Arwind Santos finished with 15 points apiece and combined for 20 rebounds and seven blocks. RR Garcia and Ronald Tubid scored 12 and 11 points respectively off the bench while Marcio Lassiter chipped in 11. As a team the champs shot 49 percent from the field compared to only 34 percent from NLEX.
With yet another lopsided defeat, the Road Warriors have now lost four in a row and dropped to 1-4 just above winless Mahindra.
Kevin Alas, Bradwyn Guinto, and Jonas Villanova each scored 12 for NLEX
