Chris Gavina hopes his Mahindra squad can get to have a Merry Christmas.
After a promising performance against San Miguel, Mahindra failed to build any sort of momentum against Ginebra, getting blown out in the fourth quarter Friday on its way to a 19-point defeat.
Now at 0-5 and going nowhere fast, the Floodbuster are focusing their attention on their Christmas day game against Blackwater in hopes of getting that elusive first win.
After all, the franchise's first official PBA win cam at the expense of the Elite two years ago at the Philiipine Arena, the site of their clash on December 25.
"I'm focused on Blackwater, and hopefully we get that first win on Christmas day," top deputy Chris Gavina said.
"I don't think anybody wants to go home before Christmas break going on a loss," he added.
For their Christmas to be merry, Gavina said the Floodbuster will have to find ways to deal with adversity and play more of team ball.
There's a big level of accountabilty, including myself. This is gonna be a season of adversity, each struggle is just another opportunity to really test our character," he said.
Gavina is also sticking to his thing of holding Mahindra to a high standard regardless of their record, something that was very effectve during the team's first-ever playoff run last season.
"As a coach, I won't let guys slip. My standards will still be consistent because for me it's gonna be the way to build from your struggle," Gavina said.
"If you keep holding your team to higher standards, hopefully they learn through adversity moving forward," he added.
