Lee's Star takes emotional win against Yap's ROS
Paul Lee and the Star Hotshots took an emotional decision at the expense of James Yap and the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters.

Paul Lee and James Yap's first meeting with their respective former teams lived up to its massive hype.

In the end though, it was Lee who made the bigger plays and got the win for his new squad... at the expense of his old one.

Lee's Star Hotshots used a furious fourth-quarter rally to turn back Yap's Rain or Shine, 99-91, Sunday at the Big Dome as the 2017 PBA Philippine Cup enters its mid-season grind.

Down 84-88, the Hotshots unloaded a big 12-0 run to take control with 1:24 to go. Back-to-back triples by Aldrech Ramos sealed the win for Star in the final 36 seconds.

Rookie Jio Jalalon broke an 88-all tie with 2:41 remaining in regulation as Star never trailed the rest of the way. Lee got his signature shot moments later as he buried a clutch triple for a five-point lead just under the two-minute mark.

The Angas ng Tondo was also the one who dished out the assists in Ramos' two treys for the final tally.

"Tiwala lang kami sa sistema ni coach, and then yung trust ko sa teammates ko, nandun talaga since Day 1 na dumating ako sa team. Parang pinakita ko sa kanila na kailangan talaga magtiwala tayo sa isa't-isa para malayo marating natin," Lee said who ended up with 14 points, three rebounds, and four assists in Star's third straight victory against two defeats.

PJ Simon actually ended up leading the Hotshots in scoring, dropping 16 points in a starring role while Jalalon likewise chipped in 14.

Ramos added 12 and Allein Maliksi and Marc Pingris dropped 11 apiece off the bench for an all-around effort from Star.

For the Elasto Painters, who now drop to 3-2, it was the bench that did most of the damage led by Raymond Almazan's 19 points and 13 rebounds.

Jay Washington (14 points), Mike Tolomia (11 points), and Gabe Norwood (10 points) also scored in double figures as reserves. Yap ended up with nine points.

The scores:

STAR 99 - Simon 16, Jalalon 14, Lee 14, Ramos 12, Maliksi 11, Pingris 11, Melton 6, Sangalang 6, Dela Rosa 5, Barroca 4, Reavis 0.

RAIN OR SHINE 91 - Almazan 19, Washington 14, Tolomia 11, Norwood 10, Yap 9, Ponferada 8, Ahanmisi 7, Belga 6, Cruz 5, Chan 2.
