Malaking lesson sa amin ito -- Calvin Abueva of Alaska after Talk N' Text snapped the Aces' three-game winning streak.
Alaska learned the hard way not to let their guards down.
Still in cloud nine after three straight victories, the Aces came crashing down as the Talk ‘N Text Katropa let loose a barrage of triples to stun Alaska.
“Siguro naging overconfident din kami,” said Alaska’s Calvin Abueva, who hit the showers just a minute remaining in the game after fouling out in the Aces’ 100-109 loss Friday in the 2017 PBA Philippine Cup at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.
The defeat reeled Alaska to eighth spot with 3-3 win-loss record heading into the holiday break.
“Malaking lesson sa amin ito kasi 3-3 kami ngayon at saka siyempre hindi pa stick ang standing namin kaya kailangan naming mag-tiyaga pa,” said Abueva, who finished with 18 points, 12 rebounds and four assists before committing his sixth and last foul with just 59 ticks left in the game.
Alaska’s only taste of the lead was at 2-0 and spent most of the game playing cath. The Katropa buried Alaska, 58-34, at the half.
“Sa akin parang nag-struggle din kami sa first quarter namin at second quarter namin kaya siguro lumabas na ganoon,” said Abueva.
The Aces were able to close the gap, 70-77, at the end of the third before TNT exploded to wrap the victory.
TNT rained down 14 three-pointers with Troy Rosario nailing 6-of-9 from the rainbow arc while Larry Fonacier drilled four from seven attempts.
“Siguro doon naging effective sa kanila ‘yung outside shooting nila pumapasok like ‘yung kay Larry (Fonacier) at ‘yung kay Troy (Rosario). Dun lumakas ang kompiyansa nila sa mga tira nila,” he added.
The Aces will resume action on January 7 against the Star Hotshots.
“Sa susunod kasi Star ang kalaban namin tapos di ba parang umaayos na rin ang team nila? Siyempre kailangan namin ‘yung paghandaan,” said Abueva.
