"I wanted to give them 10 days of break kaya lang baka ako mawalan ng trabaho." --- Nash Racela.
TNT head coach Nash Racela is not about to be consumed by the holiday break.
With the KaTropa already done in 2016 in terms of actual PBA games, the rookie head coach already has an extensive schedule of practices to keep his team sharp despite taking almost two weeks off.
"Ang break namin Dec. 24-26. We'll practice 27-29. We'll take 30 and 31 off and then [Jan.] 1-2 practice. [Jan.] 3 off, 4-6 practice," Racela revealed.
Yes, the KaTropa are working on the first two days of 2017.
While that may seem like much, Racela has perfectly good reason to keep his team running in the Philippine Cup. At 4-2, TNT is currently in a tie for second place with at least two other teams.
"That's actually our fear eh. When you go to a long break, of course the mindset of not only the players and us coaches eh syempre Christmas, holiday break, bakasyon. Again we'll try to focus on the things that we need to improve on and hopefully we get good practices during the break especially between Christmas and New Year," Racela said.
Not to sound and look like the Grinch, Racela did want to give his players the break that they deserved. It just so happened that their in the middle of an important tournament.
And being a first-year mentor, coach Nash is just probably trying to speed up the process of adjustment despite serving as TNT's top assistant for the longest time.
"I wanted to give them 10 days of break kaya lang baka ako mawalan ng trabaho," he said with a laugh.
