TURNING BACK THE CLOCK. Gabby Espinas exhibited his paint presence along with a newfound long-range weapon in San Miguel's crushing of Blackwater.
He’s now 35-years old, but there was a time not so long ago when Gabby Espinas made history as the first-ever Most Valuable Player-Rookie of the Year in the history of the NCAA.
But if Friday is any indication, Espinas can still go.
Olongapo’s pride scattered 22 points throughout 21 minutes while also collaring six rebounds in San Miguel’s 25-point blowout of Blackwater.
Those numbers are now rare for Espinas, but for him personally, they’re not surprising. Asked if he was keeping track of his performance, he answered candidly, “Actually, ‘di ko binibilang kasi alam ko namang kaya ko. Pero yun nga, alam naman natin role natin dito.”
He then continued, “Puro star player dito so kapag binigyan ka ng opportunity, dapat i-grab mo na.”
While grab it, he did this time around, the once NCAA MVP-RoY said he was just doing what the Beermen needed from him. “Kailangan naming ipagpatuloy yung energy nung first group namin. Every game, lagi silang bugbog so kung anong ma-provide namin, malaking tulong na sa kanila yun,” he expressed.
