"Medyo inspired. On Saturday [Jan. 21], I'm getting married eh." --- Papot Paredes.
Papot Paredes played his best PBA game Friday, going for 13 points and six rebounds in a Globalport win at the MOA Arena.
The former La Salle Green Archer admitted to playing inspired ball, not just because he celebrated his 25th birthday the day before but also because he's tying the knot with his fiancée next week.
"Medyo inspired. On Saturday [Jan. 21], I'm getting married eh," he said after playing a role in the Batang Pier's fifth win of the season.
And since he's entering a new chapter of his life, Paredes will have to miss Globalport's next game, a mega showdown against two-time defending champion San Miguel that is scheduled on the same the of his wedding.
While his would-be wife understands that his career, and Globalport's continued chase for a top-2 spot, means that he's going to have to go back to practice the next Monday, the actual wedding date is non-negotiable. Especially since its been planned for a year now.
"Wala munang honeymoon. I'll be back agad ng practice ng Monday. She understands," Paredes said talking about his fiancée Kiara.
One person will be absent at the ceremony though as ninong Franz Pumaren gets a valid excuse.
"He'll be proxied na lang, he's my coach since RP Youth. He can't miss that game din," Paredes said.
With him celabrating a special day, Paredes wishes for his team to take down San Miguel as a victory would be a fitting wedding present.
"Sana manalo sila para maganda pa rin labas ng games. There's a chance to get that top two and we want to be there to be easier for us. When you're down, it's going to be harder. We want to get that twice-to-beat advantage," he said.
