"Happy lang ako. Feeling ko nasa college pa rin ako. I felt the school spirit sa AMA community. I'm really happy with this team." --- Jeron Teng.
Fresh from breaking the PBA D-League scoring record right in his first game, former La Salle star Jeron Teng still sees countless things to improve on in his performance.
That should mean trouble for the rest of the field.
"Outside shooting ko, three points, involving my teammates more. Lahat kailangan ko i-improve," Teng said after dropping 42 points, seven rebounds, and six assists in a 101-95 AMA victory over Batangas in the Aspirants' Cup.
Teng, who was highly featured in the AMA offense as evidenced by his 27 field goal attempts and 23 tries from the free-throw line, was admittedly surprised by his output, which is seven points more than his UAAP career-high.
Although it's still 62 points short of his all-time career best which he set back in high school.
"Di ko inexpect yun eh, nagulat na lang ako. I was just focused to do my best for the team," he said.
As the top pick of the D-League Draft, Teng immediately felt the added responsibility in his first basketball stint outside of La Salle.
But since he was focused with the Green Archers for all of the last five years, Teng relished the opportunity to see action in what should be the first step towards his eventual pro career.
"Super excited ako kasi five years ako sa La Salle, di ako nakapag D-League pero yung iba, nakapag D-League na," Teng shares.
"I used to envy those guys. It's another basketball experience and I'm happy to improve," he added.
Adding a different dimension to Titans basketball, the former two-time UAAP champion and Finals MVP was obviously showered with affection by the AMA faithful.
Teng liked it and gave the love right back. It almost felt like he never left La Salle.
"Happy lang ako. Feeling ko nasa college pa rin ako. I felt the school spirit sa AMA community. I'm really happy with this team," he expressed.
