"Hindi ko naman minamadali kasi malayo pa yan." --- Paul Lee on Gilas PIlipinas.
Despite missing out on making the Gilas Pilipinas lineup the last time out due to injury, Paul Lee is in no rush on making it back to the national team.
It doesn't mean that he's not thrilled to be back though.
Part of the 25-man pool announced by head coach Chot Reyes last week, Lee is relishing the fact that he has another chance to represent the Philippines in international competitions.
"Happy and honored na mabigyan ng chance na ma-represent na naman yung country natin," Lee said who last saw action for Gilas Pilipinas during the 2014 FIBA World Cup in Spain.
But with Star in the middle of a heated playoff race in the 2017 Philippine Cup, Lee's sole focus remain with the Hotshots.
"Hindi ko naman minamadali kasi malayo pa yan," Lee said. "Focus muna ako dito [Star], playoffs na ngayon dito eh. Wala muna yung isip ko jan."
Leading Star to its first playoff appearance in three conferences also helps boost Lee's Gilas chances though as he gets to prove the powers that be that picked him for the national team right.
After all, Reyes and staff passed on Marc Pingris in the Star lineup in favor of Lee.
He made a nice impression Wednesday against the Blackwater Elite as after he struggles for three quarters, Lee dropped 13 points in the fourth to secure the crucial victory for Star.
"Kailangan mag-perform pa din ako dito syempre," Lee said talking about the Hotshots. "Kasi kahit papaano, tinitignan ka eh. Kailangan mo pa rin mag-perform para hindi mapahiya yung mga taong nagtiwala sayo na kumuha sayo sa Gilas."
