Aces ground Phoenix to make PBA quarterfinals
Alaska clinched its playoff spot after dominating the Fuel Masters, 106-85, at the Cuneta Astrodome, leaving only four more open spots in the season-opening conference with five more teams still competing.

The 2017 PBA Philippine Cup bracket is halfway filled after the Alaska Aces became the fourth team to advance following an impressive beatdown of Phoenix Friday.

Alaska clinched its playoff spot after dominating the Fuel Masters, 106-85, at the Cuneta Astrodome, leaving only four more open spots in the season-opening conference with five more teams still competing.

The Aces won back-to-back games and moved to a share of second with a 6-4 mark. Alaska also robbed Phoenix a chance to compete for the final twice-to-beat advantage as the Fuel Masters wrapped up their regular season with a 6-5 record.

Nevertheless, Phoenix is still in the quarterfinals after becoming the second team to move on last week. TNT is the other team that's already into the next round.

Vic Manuel once again flexed his muscles for the Aces, finshing with 21 points on 77 percent shooting in only 22 minutes of play off the bench. He also had seven rebounds.

Kevin Racal added another 20 points, six rebounds, three assists, and two steals for Alaska.

"I really feel it was a total team effort. It felt like everybody was involved, it felt like everybody contributed," head coach Alex Compton said.

The Aces blew the game wide open in the second quarter, outscoring the Fuel Masters by 12 points to put up a 60-42 lead at the break.

Phoenix never really got close in the second half as the Aces led by as much as 25. 

Rookie Matthew Wright led the Fuel Masters with 18 points, eight rebounds, and four assists. Phoenix will now wait for the elimination round to play our to find out what seed its in for the quarterfinals.
