The 2017 PBA Philippine Cup playoffs is finally set.

Rain or Shine completed the eight-team cast after eliminating Blackwater, 103-80, in a one-game knockout at the Araneta Coliseum on Friday.

The win enabled the Elasto Painters to take control of the no. 8 seed, setting up an intriguing quarterfinal matchup with no. 1 and two-time defending champion San Miguel Beer two days from now.

After failing to advance four times, ROS finally returned to the playoffs on its fifth attempt, bucking a slow start to basically force the Elite into submission.

Blackwater got off to a fast start, opening up a 13-2 lead in the opening minutes of the first quarter. That was the only positive thing that happened for the Elite in this game as it was all Rain or Shine the rest of the way.

Six Elasto Painters scored in double-figures led by Jay Washington's 15 points. Rookie Mike Tolomia came off the bench to score 14 while Beau Belga, Jeff Chan, and Jercho Cruz all dropped 12 for ROS.

Taking a still not-so-safe 12-point lead into the fourth quarter, the Elasto Painters turned up the heat in the payoff period, dropping 35 points to complete take the fight out of Blackwater. Things got so out of hand late in the game ROS actually took a commanding 25-point cushion, 103-78, before the Elite scored their final basket for the conference.

"Now we just have to face the best team in the league right now. We just have to think and believe that we can beat them," head coach Caloy Garcia said, immediately setting his sights on the champs.

Art Dela Cruz led Blackwater with 20 points but it was not enough to carry the Ever Bilen franchise to the quarterfinals.

Despite the elimination however, the Elite had their arguably best conference as a team, winning five games from their 11-game schedule. Last season, Blackwater only won seven games.
