RDO holds the door for KaTropa as TNT makes semis
De Ocampo played a near-perfect game for TNT, shooting 70 percent from the field, including a perfect 10-of-10 from the stripe, for a game-high 25 points.

TNT proved that depth is still king in the PBA.

With a balanced scoring effort, the KaTropa took a hard-fought 95-90 victory over the Globalport Batang Pier in Game 2 of their best-of-3 PBA Philippine Cup semifinals series Monday at the Big Dome.

The victory allowed no. 4 TNT to sweep the series, eliminating the fifth-seeded Batang Pier to arrange a titanic semifinal clash against two-time defending champion San Miguel Beer.

TNT appeared to be on its way to an easy night after opening up a 20-point lead, 47-27, following a huge 17-0 run in the second quarter.

But with Terrence Romeo leading the charge, the Batang Pier would respond quickly and make it a game at the break. Unfortunately for them, the Bro may have fired his best shot in the first half as Romeo, the league's leading scorer, was limited to only three points in the last two quarters, missing all of his field goal attempts.

Still, Globalport was primed to extend the series to a deciding Game 3 after taking the lead with five minutes to go courtesy of a KG Canaleta jumper.

It was all TNT from then on as Ranidel De Ocampo and Kelly Williams came up with clutch buckets to give the KaTropa a 93-90 lead. The Batang Pier had one last chance to tie but Romeo fumbled to ball in the last eight seconds.

De Ocampo played a near-perfect game for TNT, shooting 70 percent from the field, including a perfect 10-of-10 from the stripe, for a game-high 25 points.

Mo Tautuaa added 14 for the KaTropa while Troy Rosario chipped in 10 points. Larry Fonacier and Williams scored 10 apiece.

"Good thing our veterans stepped up today. It's acutally the key for us to win, veterans stepping forward and delivering," head coach Nash Racela said.

As for Globalport, who failed to make the Philippine Cup semifinals for a second straight season, Romeo led the way with 22 points but needed 23 shots to get there.

Stanley Pringle added 19 while JR Quinahan finished with 17 points.

The scores:

TNT 95 - De Ocampo 25, Tautuaa 14, Rosario 12, Fonacier 10, Williams 10, Castro 9, Rosales 8, Pogoy 5, Rosser 2, Reyes 0, Carey 0, Tamsi 0.

GLOBALPORT 90 - Romeo 22, Pringle 19, Quinahan 17, Cortez 10, Canaleta 7, Semerad 7, Maierhofer 4, Mamaril 2, Paredes 2, Urbiztondo 0, Pessumal 0, Andrada 0, Pennisi 0.

Quarterscores: 30-22, 48-41, 76-67, 95-90
