Big Ben playing for Cameroon in the 2017 Afrobasket? It can happen.
Aside from Gilas Pilipinas, the national team pool of Cameroon should also get some attention from Filipino hoop fans.
That's because UAAP Season 79 MVP and champion Ben Mbala, UAAP Season 77 Finals MVP Alfred Aroga, and NCAA Season 92 Finals MVP Arnaud Noah are all part of the country's 30-man selection for the 2017 AfroBasket qualifiers.
Mbala of course is the La Salle star that changed so many lives in his rookie season in Taft. Making his debut for the Green Archers this year, Big Ben went for 20.6 points, 16.0 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 1.4 steals, and 2.4 blocks on his way to a championship and a Most Valuable Player award in Season 79.
Aroga meanwhile played his final game for National University last year but he famously led the Bulldogs to the championship in Season 77, ending the school's 54-year drought.
As for Noah, the toweing Cameroonian came in and helped the San Beda Red Lions regain their NCAA title also this past season, earning a Finals MVP plum following a sweep of the Arellano Chiefs.
The three Philippine collegiate stars join NBA players Joel Embiid, Pascal Siakam, and Luc Mbah a Moute in Cameroon's pool of players.
Cameroon is grouped with Chad and Gabon in the African qualifiers, the winner will play in the 2017 Afrobasket set for August.
