It took one guy to erase Star's recent Manila Clasico woes.

In Game 1 of their best-of-7 semifinal series against rival Brgy. Ginebra, the Hotshots found a savior in Paul Lee as Star took care of business to go up 1-0 in the race to four Thursday.

Holding on to a 76-74 lead in the final minute, Lee found himself with the ball on a broken play and bailed out Star with a pretty spin move and floater that somehow managed to evade three Ginebra defenders, leaving 25 seconds on the clock.

A Ginebra turnover later and Star has snapped a four-game Manila Clasico losing skid in dramatic fashion.

"Tsamaba lang yun. Actually broken play nangyari. Hindi nasunod yung play namin galling sa timeout, so take charge lang, kinuha ko lang yung bola kay Rafi, at buti umabot [sa shot clock]," Lee said of his cold-blooded final play.

"Five seconds na lang ata nung pagkuha ko ng bola, so wala ng isip-isip, atake na agad, nakakita ng open lane, focus lang ako sa tira ko at buti pumasok," he added.

Winning six of the previous games prior to Game 1 by an average of 27 points, Star's close game on Thursday may actually be the norm for the rest of the series according to Lee, who only played his second Manila Clasico game ever, picking up his first win in the PBA's most famous rivalry.

"Simula ngayon hanggang matapos yung series, puro ganun lang yung laro, so kung sino yung pinakamatibay dumepensa, yun yung mananalo dito feeling ko," Lee said who finished with a game-high 18 points, nine in the fourth quarter.

Now winners of seven straight, Lee said the Hotshots will have to continue with playing great defense in order to build on that momentum moving forward.

"Yung mga blowout game, hindi naman naming sinasadya na maging ganun eh. Maganda lang talaga yung depensa namin, tapos  so opensa maraming open shots," he said.

"Kanina, ang dami naming open shot, pero hindi kami maka-shoot, so kailangan namin bumalik sa bestfriend namin, which is yung defense," he added.
