Kiefer Ravena nearly had a game-winner – but it wasn’t meant to be.
Ravena’s triple that went in-and-out at the final buzzer sealed the deal on Team Philippines’ second straight loss, this time at the hands of Egypt, 84-82, on Sunday (Philippine time) in Dubai,
Battling back from as being behind by as much as 18, the Mighty Sports-backed squad’s rally fell short and forced them to stay out of the win column in the Dubai International Basketball Tournament.
Egypt erected a 60-42 lead after three quarters before former Ginebra import Justin Brownlee scored 16 of his 27 points to will the Philippines back into the game.
Mighty Sports even had a chance to send the game into overtime or win it outright after Egypt’s Youseff Aboushousha muffed on his free throws with six ticks to go. However, Ravena’s triple try rattled out of the ring.
Ravena wound up with 10 points while Hasheem Thabeet and Jeron Teng chimed in nine points each for 0-2 Philippines.
