"Sabi ko sobrang proud ako sa kanya, nami-miss ko na siya." --- Marc Pingris on his exchange with Ginebra's Tim Cone at the end of Manila Clasico.
With Manila Clasico coming to a close Tuesday night after Ginebra's Game 7 win over Star in the Philippine Cup, two key figures from both sides shared an emotional embrace on the sidelines.
As the Gin Kings marched on to the 2017 All-Filipino Finals following an 89-76 win, Star's Marc Pingris immediately approached the Ginebra bench to offer some parting words.
He found Tim Cone there and the former coach-player tandem hugged it out for a series well-fought.
"Sabi ko sobrang proud ako sa kanya, nami-miss ko na siya," Pingris said of his short talk with his former coach.
For his part, Cone, who won his second career Grand Slam with the Purefoods franchise, feels for his former player.
They did went to war and won five championships together.
"I feel bad for Ping especially because he played just tremendously the whole way through," Cone said.
"I know those guys so intimately and I know how much they love to win," he added.
Sharing countless championship wins together, it was obviously an emotional series between Cone and the Hotshots. The fact that it was Manila Clasico simply pushed those emotions to a whole new level.
"It's really tough to put those guys on the losing side," Cone said of his formet team.
"But I got a new commitment, gotta move forward," he added.
