Arwind argues Game 2 should have never gone into overtime

"Pwede pang tawagan ng double [dribble] kasi hindi naman tumama ng board. Natapik ko nung nasa kamay na niya. Pero nung binato na niya, hindi na tumama yun." --- Arwind Santos, arguing that Joe Devance should have been called for more than one violation in the final sequence from Game 2's regulation (Photo courtesy of the PBA).
With June Mar Fajardo limited by fouls all night long, San Miguel's other MVP took over in Game 2 for the Beermen.
Arwind Santos, despite shooting an ugly 9-of-26 from the field, was an absolute beast for San Miguel in Lucena City.
Taking over the alpha role for the two-time defending Philippine Cup champions, Santos almost made two clutch plays on both ends of the floor that would have completed the biggest PBA Finals comeback in history for San Miguel.
Santos first fired a booming trey to tie the game in regulation at 106-all.
Then, with 3.2 seconds to go and the Beermen up, 110-108, Santos appeared to have blocked Joe Devance's game-tying floater. However, in the confusion that followed, Devance somehow got the ball and put it back in as time expired, sending the game into overtime.
Ginebra ended up winning after an extra five minutes.
Santos argues the five minutes should have never even happened.
"Dapat nga foul pa yun. May tulak pa yun," Santos said on the final play from regulation.
"Pwede pang tawagan ng double [dribble] kasi hindi naman tumama ng board. Natapik ko nung nasa kamay na niya. Pero nung binato na niya, hindi na tumama yun," he added, arguing that Devance should have been called for more than one violation in that sequence.
Despite his late-game questions about officiating, Santos is moving forward to Game 3, taking into consideration that the Beermen almost won, or should have won depending on who you ask, despite falling down by 26 points in the first half.
"Sayang. Nandun na kami. Ang maganda dito, nahabol namin yung malaki nilang kalamangan," Santos said.
"Pero hindi na namin tinitignan yan. Move on na kami para sa Game 3," he added.
