WORTH THE WAIT. Coach Mac Cuan said all of Alab is nothing but excited about the winning mentality Kiefer Ravena will bring to the team.
Despite losing three of their last five games, Alab Pilipinas remain entrenched in the third spot – well within the playoff picture in the 2016-2017 Asean Basketball League.
And come the playoffs itself, there will be a more determined and dangerous Philippine team.
“We will be better because we will have an additional option. And someone who will be consistent, at that,” head coach Mac Cuan said after he and his team scored a coup in listing Kiefer Ravena on their lineup.
He then continued, “Kiefer will help Ray (Parks Jr.) because the defense won’t be able to focus on (Ray) with (Kiefer) there.”
Cuan shared that team management and Ravena came to terms on Wednesday.
And they are nothing but excited about the winning mindset the two-time UAAP MVP will bring to the team. As the head coach put it, “Kiefer is a proven winner. He will really help us out in closing out games.”
However, Alab is not expecting their newest prized player to be suiting up any time soon. “Hopefully, he will be able to play in our last two games (in the eliminations),” the coach said.
He also added, “The worst-case scenario is one game na lang before playoffs.”
The Filipinos’ last two games in the eliminations are on March 19 against Hong Kong and March 26 against Kaohsiung.
What’s definite is that Ravena, still mending to the right hand he injured in the recently-concluded Dubai International Tournament, will not be donning the blue, red, and white until after three weeks at least.
Along with that, the 23-year-old said that he will still have to finish his commitment with the Texas Legends in the NBA D-League. “Depende pa talaga kasi kailangan ko pang tapusin (NBA) D-League,” he shared.
Ravena said he will fly back to the US on March 12. He is yet to set a date for his return to the Philippines.
