GUSTO KO, HAPPY KA. June Mar Fajardo wants nothing more than to make his teammates happy with a championship.
June Mar Fajardo and Danny Ildefonso are the only players in the PBA’s four decade-long history to be recognized five times as Best Player of the Conference.
Officially tying his mentor’s record, the 27-year-old accepted his latest award on Friday inside a jam-packed Araneta Coliseum.
Averaging 19.4 points, 15.4 rebounds, 2.4 blocks, and 1.5 assists, Fajardo was the obvious choice to win the award. He beat out Globalport’s Terrence Romeo by 506 points.
Of course, “The Kraken” was nothing but humbled to have placed himself alongside the legendary Ildefonso. “Siyempre , nakaka-proud kasi never ko naman in-expect na mapapantayan ko siya. Nakakatuwa lang talaga,” he expressed afterward.
Serenaded by “MVP! MVP!” – yes, MVP, and not just BPC – chants, Fajardo accepted the award together with all of his teammates.
And the three-time MVP made it a point to say that even with the personal accomplishment, his sights are still set on the championship for everybody. “Nagpapasalamat ako, pero maganda kung masaya kaming lahat. Kaya ang gusto ko talaga, yung championship,” he said.
After a dominant Game 4 win, Fajardo and San Miguel are just one win away from that championship for everybody.
