The win pushed the Beermen to a commanding 3-1 series lead, one win away from capturing the elusive Perpetual trophy.
The final score was a lot closer but make no mistake, San Miguel dominated this contest from start to finish.
Two-time defending champion San Miguel Beer rode a fiery opening run on its way to a 94-85 victory in Game 4 the 2017 PBA Philippine Cup Finals Friday at the Big Dome.
San Miguel started the game perfectly, dropping a 20-2 bomb before weathering a Ginebra comeback in the second half for the win.
The Beermen now hold a commanding 3-1 series lead, one win away from capturing the elusive Perpetual trophy.
"I think the key here is our good start. Any time we have a good start, so many things can happen especially on our offense. Makikita niyo in the first quarter, nagkaroon sila ng kumpyansang tumira sa labas," head coach Leo Austria said.
"We’re lucky kasi even Chris Ross, mukhang siya ang shooter e kesa kay Cabagnot and kay Lassiter. But I’m happy to see him knocking down those shots," he added.
True enough, the Beermen waxed hot from deep, connecting on 15 out of their 35 attempts to tie a PBA Finals record. Ross made five of those.
San Miguel didn't waste time in taking control of the crucial Game 4 as the champs fired off 11 unanswered points to set the tone.
The domination continued well into the second half as the Beermen took a 26-point lead, 60-34, early in the third period.
Ginebra would stage a brief comeback in the fourth but the Gin Kings never really got close enough for the Beermen to feel threatened whatsoever.
Newly-awarded Best Player of the Conference June Mar Fajardo led the champs with 20 points and 13 rebounds while Marcio Lassiter likewise scored 20.
Ross finished with 17 points and Alex Cabagnot added 13.
Joe Devance continues to carry the fight for Brgy. Ginebra as the veteran forward led the team with 22 points.
Game 5 is set for Sunday at the Big Dome.
