After BPC, Fajardo looking to match Ildefonso's title count

After matching Danny Ildefonso's record of five PBA Best Player of the Conference awards, June Mar Fajardo is currently working on chasing, and even surpassing, his mentor's title count.
With his fifth Best Player of the Conference awards, fourth straight in the All-Filipino, San Miguel's June Mar Fajardo has tied mentor Danny Ildefonso for most BPC awards in PBA history.
That's a nice feat and all but the Kraken wants to match, or even surpass for that matter, another milestone that the Demolition Man accomplished during his own storied stint with San Miguel Beer.
Ildefonso, who who five straight BPC awards in 2000 and 2001 on his way to back-to-back Most Valuable Player plums, captured eight league titles with the Beermen.
Fajardo, who is currently at three titles and is one win away from a fourth, is looking to chase that more than the individual honors.
"Mas maganda kung sampung championship para masaya naman lahat," Fajardo said as San Miguel took a 3-1 series lead against Brgy. Ginebra in the 2017 Philippine Cup Finals.
"Para sa akin, yun ang barometer hindi yung individual eh," he added.
Focusing on chasing his mentor's title count, Fajardo is completely locked in to finish off the Gin Kings for good.
Despite having three chances to close out Ginebra, Fajardo and the Beermen would rather do it with one swift blow by the time Game 5 rolls Sunday.
"Isang panalo na lang pero hindi kami pwedeng mag-relax eh. Tsaka na kami mag-relax pag tapos na, kasi mahirap na," he said.
"Alam naman natin na hindi ganun kadali makuha yung championship, kailangan sakripisyo din, tiyaga, tapos tiwala sa team," Fajardo added.
