"Okay lang kung puro beer, maliligo na lang ako sa beer." --- first-time PBA champion RR Garcia on his title bonus.
Somebody tell RR Garcia how PBA championship bonuses work.
Savoring his first-ever title after San Miguel wrapped up the 2017 Philippine Cup with a 4-1 series victory against Brgy. Ginebra, Garcia is obviously elated with the fact but is having trouble understanding how the system works.
"Di ko alam, wala pa," the journeyman guard said when asked about the bonus he and the Beermen are sure to get by winning the Perpetual Trophy.
"Syempre first time ko to, mga ilang weeks pa siguro bago malaman," he added.
Usually, extra cash is given to champion teams as a bonus. Sometimes it even includes cars and free trips.
Garcia, who never won a championship with Far Eastern University despite two UAAP Finals appearances and is only celebrating his first PBA title after four years in the league, is about to enjoy the fruits of his and his team's labors.
And playing for San Miguel, free beer as a bonus is never out of the question. Garcia would like that too if that's all there is to winning a PBA title.
He's too happy to care really.
"Okay lang kung puro beer, maliligo na lang ako sa beer," he said with a laugh.
"Sobrang saya kasi fisrt championship ko to. Ito ang pinaka masarap kasi PBA ito eh, ito yung pangarap ko," Garcia added.
While he didn't get to play as much towards the end of San Miguel's title run due to a shoulder injury, Garcia is nevertheless enjoying his first taste of PBA hardware.
Despite getting hurt, he was still ready to go when his number got called.
"Yun nga napasama lang na hindi ako nakatulong sa team pero kahit nasa bench ako yung suporta ko nandun pa rin sa kanila," he said.
