BRAND NEW STAGE. The NBTC is set to continue providing a bigger and brighter stage for the country's young talent to shine.
For the second straight year, the National Basketball Training Center has joined forces with ABS-CBN.
The goal: to continue to provide a bigger and brighter stage for the country’s young talent to shine.
“The NBTC is still growing and we expect this renewed partnership to help us reach out to more cities,” program director Eric Altamirano said as they inked another agreement with ABS-CBN on Wednesday
That is exactly why the renewed partnership was a no-brainer for both sides. “We felt that it’s necessary to provide a platform to see the best of the best young talent. So even at the onset of our discussions, we all felt that this is more than a one-year deal,” ABS-CBN Integrated Sports head Dino Laurena explained.
Like in years past, high school teams from all over the country will duke it out in the NBTC League set on the second week of March.
There, well-known squads like NCAA Champion Malayan High School of Science and UAAP Champion Far Eastern University-Diliman will share the stage will lesser-known teams like De La Salle Lipa, the reigning and defending champions in the league’s Division 2.
Also a highlight of the week-long event is the All-Star Game where the best of the best young talent, as Laurena said, will be pitted against each other. Among those already confirmed to be participating are Ateneo de Manila High School’s SJ Belangel and Kai Sotto as well as Arellano High School’s Guilmer Dela Torre.
As if the exhibition needed any more color, at the opposite sides this time around will be Aldin Ayo of UAAP Champion De La Salle University and Jamike Jarin, formerly of NCAA Champion San Beda and now of National University.
The two coaches have history as back in 2015, they had gone head-to-head in the NCAA with Ayo calling the shots for Colegio de San Juan de Letran and Jarin on the sidelines for San Beda.
The NBTC All-Star Game will be broadcast on March 17 on ABS-CBN S+A Channel 23. It will also be streamed LIVE on sports.abs-cbn.com, together with the League Finals, on March 16.
