ALIVE. Ben Mbala, a well-known "life-changer," will be one of the judges in the NBTC All-Star Slam Dunk Contest.
Safe to say, De La Salle University’s Ben Mbala knows a thing or two about dunking.
In fact, his alley-oop in a game against archrival Ateneo changed the life of broadcaster Mico Halili.
And so, the reigning UAAP MVP is all set to be one of the four people making up the board of judges for the 2017 NBTC All-Star Slam Dunk Contest.
Mbala will be joined in the judges’ table by Philippine basketball legends – and well-known dunkers – Jerry Codinera, Danny Ildefonso, and Kerby Raymundo.
Vying for the crown on Thursday at the MOA Arena will be professional dunker David Carlos; UAAP standouts Juan Gomez de Liano and Encho Serrano; and foreign flyers Matthew Daves from Canada, Aaron Davis from New Zealand, and Bruce Edwards from USA.
The five participants will be given two dunks each in the preliminary round. The top two will then advance to the Finals where they will be again given two dunks.
Also happening on All-Star Thursday is the Three-point Shootout where UAAP snipers John Lloyd Clemente and Dave Ildefonso; Filipino-foreign shooters Jasper Rentoy and Evyn Santiago; and provincial marksmen Guian Lorzano and Rufino Sablaon will try to outgun one another.
The Slam Dunk Contest and Three-point Shootout will commence right after the All-Star Games of Division 1 and 2.
After the side events, the Finals of Division 1 and 2 will then ensue.
The NBTC All-Star Game will be broadcast on March 17 on ABS-CBN S+A Channel 23. It will also be streamed LIVE, together with the League Finals, on March 16.
