"El Destructor" is back people.
The 2017 PBA Commissioner's Cup continues Saturday with a double-header at the Cuneta Astrodome featuring one team that is bringing back a reliable force and another team that is bringing in a late-replacement.
Phoenix opens the mid-season tournament against Blackwater in the 3:00 p.m. curtain-raiser at the Cuneta Astrodome with Eugene Phelps back in town, looking to take advantage of the undersized forward's talents before he has to go to Puerte Rico to fulfill an earlier commitment.
Making his second tour of duty in the PBA, "El Destructor" was an absolute beast for the Fuel Masters last year, helping the team make their first playoff appearance in the 2016 Governors' Cup.
Standing in their way of a good start though is Blackwater, a team coming off its best conference in the All-Filipino but was not rewarded with a playoff berth. The Elite will be fielding an NBA veteran in Greg Smith as their import.
In the second game at 5:00 p.m., the Alaska Aces take the court against the Globalport Batang Pier.
After original import Octavius Ellis had to fly back to the US, the Aces had to scramble and will now have Cory Jefferson as an import. Jefferson arrive two days before Alaska's first game.
The Batang Pier meanwhile will return its potent local lineup but Terrence Romeo and co. will now have NBA veteran Sean Williams manning the paint.
